The fn key doesn't start dictation on my Mac
Locutor needs Input Monitoring to hear fn and Accessibility to type for you. Open Locutor's settings, click Permissions, and allow both. Right Option works too.
System Settings says Locutor is allowed, but it still asks
macOS ties each permission to one copy of the app, so after reinstalling, or moving from Murmur (Locutor's old name), the old switch can stay on for a copy that's gone. In System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and Input Monitoring, remove Locutor with the – button, add it back from Applications with +, then reopen Locutor.
Where are my recordings, and how do I get them out?
Every take is saved on your device as a WAV file next to its transcript. Click a take's play button to hear it, or right-click it to share the recording or text, transcribe it again, or rewrite it in another style. To take everything with you, open Settings → Export and choose transcripts, recordings or both; you get one zip. Settings → Delete erases them; there's no backup, so export first if you want to keep anything.
I closed the window. How do I get it back?
Click Locutor in the Dock. The small pill at the bottom of the screen shows while you dictate from other apps.
Nothing appears on iPhone when I dictate from the keyboard
In Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Locutor, turn on Allow Full Access. The keyboard uses it only to talk to the Locutor app on the same phone.
Which model should I use?
Parakeet Ultra is fast and accurate and the default. Qwen3-ASR is a little more accurate; on iPhone, the 0.6B version is the one that works from the keyboard.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Models download once, and after that everything runs without a connection.
